In order of World Breastfeeding Week, FMCH Indonesia still wants to share about breastfeeding. This time is about breast massage to launch more breast milk.
Why should mother do the breast massage?
It is because massaging the breast can improve blood circulation and breast milk production for mother. The mammary glands that are clogged or clumped will slowly decompose during the massage so that breast milk will smoothly come out. If breast milk smoothly come out, then its’ production will increase.
Before doing the massage, mom should clean her hands and make sure that it is done in her spare time in order to avoid the rush in doing the massage. Prepare natural massage oil such as coconut oil, olive oil or baby oil. Avoid using oil with additional fragrance or coloring.
Apply the oil throughout the palms, lift one breast with left hand, and hold the upper side with right hand.
Move the hands back and forth gently (right hand massaging to the left side, left hand massaging to the right side), repeat 20 times and do the same to the other breast.
Put both palms on one breast, gently move the hands up and down (right hand massaging to the up side, left hand massaging to the down side), repeat 20 times and do the same to the other breast.
Lift one breast with left hand, and with 3-4 fingers of right hands make a circle movement right on the nipple for 20 times and continue with the same movement around the nipple, do the same to the other breast.
With fingers, gently massage one breast from out side (besides the breast: the bottom of armpit and cleavage) to the nipple. Repeat 10 times and do the same to the other breast.
With thumb and point finger, gently twist the nipple in each breast.
Finish and happy breastfeeding 🙂
