What if waste was not only thrown away but reused?
In the villages of Laga Lete and Wee Rame, Southwest Sumba Regency, locals have started to process the piles of plastic waste in their environment. Previously, the lack of knowledge on waste management led people to habitually burn or simply discard plastic waste. As a result, air and soil pollution emerged, affecting especially children and other vulnerable groups.
Through FMCH Indonesia’s waste management program, early childhood education centers (PAUD) in the villages were first established as community hubs for training. Later, nearby residents also joined the initiative. The hope is not only for waste to be managed properly but also to produce value-added products.
